Sometimes, but the existence of another adequate and effective remedy is a major factor. Articles 133(2) and 144 expressly refer to situations where no other remedy exists or where the available remedy is inadequate or ineffective.

A writ petition should explain why the ordinary appeal, review or statutory mechanism does not provide effective relief.
