The Civil Code permits marriage by registration. Under section 77, a man and woman seeking marriage by registration apply to the relevant District Court in Nepal, or to the Nepali embassy/consulate-general if abroad, and provide prescribed personal and family information plus at least two witnesses.
For a District Court application, at least one applicant must satisfy the statutory residence requirement in the relevant district. The current Code states a minimum of 15 days' residence before application.
