Can a person marry again while already married?

Family Law

As a general rule, a person cannot enter another marriage while an existing marital relationship remains in force. Section 70 requires that neither party have an existing marital relationship.

Remarriage becomes possible in circumstances recognized by law, such as termination of the prior marital relationship or death of the spouse. Criminal-law consequences can also arise from prohibited multiple marriage.
