Is an accused person presumed innocent?

Criminal Law

Yes. Section 12 of the National Penal Code states that a person accused of an offence is not regarded as guilty until the offence is proved.

Pretrial detention, remand or the filing of a charge sheet is therefore not the same as a conviction.
