What is a civil case?

A civil case is a legal dispute concerning private rights, obligations, property, money, family relationships, contracts or other non-criminal claims. The Civil Procedure Code governs how such claims are filed, defended, heard and enforced unless a special law provides a different procedure.

Examples include:

  • debt recovery;
  • contract disputes;
  • property disputes;
  • partition;
  • succession;
  • compensation claims;
  • relationship disputes;
  • company-related civil claims.
